The efficacy and safety of levofloxacin(Cravit¡Æ) in the treatment of chronic otitis media were evaluated in a open, non-comparative, outpatient study. Twenty-four patients(13 males, 11 females) were randomly assigned to receive levofloxacin 100mg tid orally.
Clinical signs and symptoms, otorrhea culture and sensitivity test, blood and urine laboratory profiles were assessed prior to treatment, during treatment, and after treatment.
Levofloxacin(Cravit¡Æ) achieved a clinical success rate of 91.7% in culture sensitivity and active otorrheas were ceased after 2 weeks treatment in 83.3%. There was no abnormal findings in a laboratory tests during treatment. Adverse events were reported for 8.3% of patients and gastrointes-tinal disturbances, such as mild diarrhea, dyspepsia, were occurred during the treatment of levoflo-xacin(Cravit?).
The results of this study suggest that levofloxacin(Cravit?) is effective and well tolerated in the treatment of chronic otitis media.
